About the event
The definition of the adjective 'profane' in this context is "relating or devoted to that which is not sacred or biblical; that which is secular rather than religious". The program will showcase early music from the late 16th century through the early 17th century, and include French chansons, German Lieder, Italian madrigals, and English madrigals and ballets. Some of the composers that may be featured are Josquin des Prez, Orlando di Lasso, Heinrich Isaac, Hans Leo Hassler, and Claudio Monteverdi. We will be using a quartet or possibly quintet of early music instruments including viol, recorder, crumhorn, and percussion to enrich the authenticity of the experience. This type of early choral music is not often presented in our geographic area outside of an academic setting.
